Crushing and Trituration process

 

The size reduction of the minerals flow, by crushing or grinding, is a very common stage in the mineral treatment processes. Size reduction has different objectives depending on the mineral treatment process considered:

 

  • To adapt the size of the mineral to the required by the next process stage. For example, if there is a grinding stage in a process, and the mill can only accept minerals less than 20 mm size. Before the mill a crusher is located, regulated to reduce the size to below 20 mm. With this, all the mineral to be treated can be fed to the mill.
  • When the size of the material is a required characteristic of the final product. For example, for the manufacture of concrete, aggregates with a certain size are used. In this case, a aggregates mixture is usually used, in a determined proportion of three fractions per size:
    • Sand 0-4 mm
    • Gravel 4-12 mm
    • Gravel 12-25 mm

 

In the case, a stone crusher is installed in one of the final stages of the aggregate production process to manufacture concrete. With this crushing step, all the aggregate is below 25 mm, being prepared for the final screening stage and obtaining the three final products required.
